ABOUT MAVERICK WRESTLING

What began as a small group of just 6–8 wrestlers quickly grew into a thriving club of more than 60 athletes by the fall of 2024.

Maverick Wrestling officially launched in the fall of 2024, founded by Head Coach Maolu Woiwor, a 3x State Champion. Originally formed in Milton, WI as Fun To Watch Wrestling alongside longtime friend and NCAA Champion Seth Gross, the club was built on a simple vision: instill a lifelong passion for wrestling in every athlete who steps on the mat.

That vision continues today. While Coach Seth has since moved on to coach at North Dakota, Maverick Wrestling proudly carries forward the foundation they set together. Our philosophy is rooted in establishing proven baseline skills that translate to success at every level, while also tailoring instruction to each wrestler’s natural abilities.

Above all, we emphasize scoring points, having fun with friends, and enjoying the journey. Wrestling is more than a sport- it’s a marathon of growth, resilience, and camaraderie. At Maverick, we believe in building champions both on and off the mat.

Together, our coaches bring elite-level experience, proven results, and a passion for helping the next generation of wrestlers succeed. Whether you’re new to the sport or chasing championships, Maverick Training Center is where wrestlers in Wisconsin and Illinois come to train, compete, and lead with courage.

OUR COACHING STAFF

Coach Maolu Woiwor

Head Coach & Founder

Coach Maolu Woiwor brings over 22 years of wrestling experience and a deep commitment to excellence and character development to his role as Head Coach and Founder of Maverick Training Center.

After his competitive career as a 3x State Champion and member of the Undisputed National Championship Apple Valley roster, Coach Maolu transitioned into coaching in 2018 under Minnesota’s winningest wrestling coach, Jim Jackson, at Shakopee High School. His ability to lead high-intensity practices, inspire young athletes, and develop strong relationships with wrestlers and their families quickly earned him recognition in the wrestling community.

He currently serves as a coach, cornerman, and training partner for U.S. National Team members Seth and Ronna Gross. Over the years, Coach Maolu has been fortunate to directly coach and work with multiple Division I All-Americans, high school state champions, youth national champions, and state medalists – helping athletes at every level reach their full potential.

Coach Maolu believes that wrestling is more than just a sport – it’s a tool for developing life skills. His coaching philosophy focuses on self-discipline, gratitude, perseverance, and humility, ensuring that each wrestler not only improves their technique but also gains confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of community. When he’s not coaching, Coach Maolu enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, fishing, playing pickleball, and staying active.
